Edward Rochester endlessly searched the world for love, but after ten long years of wandering abroad he is more convinced than ever—it is an impossible quest. In a bitter, disappointed frame of mind he at last returns home to England, believing that true love will never be his. But an unexpected encounter with destiny in the shape of the remarkable young woman, Jane Eyre, upends his world.
She is like no one he has ever met, and their acquaintance soon grows into friendship. He finds her full of whimsical contrasts as he recounts to her tales of his travels, even freely confessing his many faults. She listens without judgment, yet in her eyes he fancies empathy, perhaps even a longing of her own?
One fateful night, Jane's daring and courage snatch him from a horrible, burning death. In the intense intimacy of the aftermath, Edward's feelings will be denied no longer he is desperately in love with her. But can he resist, knowing the terrible secret of his past must keep them forever apart?
For a man whose youthful surrender to a duty long forgotten forever altered the course of his life, Edward's choice is clear yield again to the will of others, to the man-made laws which shackle him to one woman while his body and spirit yearn for another, or defy Society, the Law—and even God—to have what he wants.

When I was teaching Jane Eyre to my high school seniors... I couldn't help wondering what Rochester told himself to propel him forward in his attempt to marry Jane. As the typical Byronic Hero, perhaps not as handsome as some, he obviously understood Jane as demonstrated by the gypsy scene. This novel, written in the Victorian period genre so eloquently, gives us his perspective. Without constant replication of the original, Bell offers up the inner most justification for his acts. How he dealt with her loss and how he came to genuine contrition is beautifully described in the novel, but nothing is more poignant than the love scenes at the end. Had this novel been available when I was teaching... I would have used it in conjunction with the Brontë novel. Well done, Bell!Product details

EDWARD ROCHESTER The Master of Thornfield Hall edition by RQ Bell Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
I love Jane Eyre. This book has almost more passion than the original book. I felt that it could have been written by Bronte herself, but looking at it from Edward's point of view. Very good.
A very disappointing book. It's Jane Eyre, written from Mr. Rochester's POV. Mostly it's just passages cribbed from Jane Eyre. If you've read Jane Eyre, don't waste your time on this book.
I love the book Jane Eyre and the love story of Edward and Jane is memorable, lovely, Sweet, powerful and this author catches the love that Edward has for Jane wonderfully.
If you loved Jane Eyre, you will love this book! I read Jane Eyre and went straight into Edward Rochester. This book does not disappoint! RQ Bell does a masterful job of telling Edward Rochester's story--brand new, but with the elements we're already familiar with from the original. When I got to the end, I almost felt that I'd read another novel by Charlotte Bronte. Loved, loved, loved it!
I found this to be incredibly faithful to the original version, but when told from his perspective, the entire story has a new and fresh feel! I would recommend this book to anyone who loved Jane Eyre, as this is a worthy companion story.
I thought I'd be generous and give 4 stars to this novel because it was genuinely well written and true to the spirit of Jane Eyre. Truly, there was nothing wrong with this novel. The author did a good job.
However, that being said, it was very vanilla to me. Now I certainly didn't buy this hoping for smut, but I did want to see more of that desperate, fiery passion Edward Rochester is famous for. While well written, this didn't quite give me that. The characters were developed nicely, but I felt like there was more backstory to certain things that were not expounded on. But that was a minor issue.
I felt most robbed of Mr. Rochester's thoughts and motivations. The only reason I got this novel is because I was dying to see what motivated him to say some of my favorite quotes from the original work. You'd think, since this was from HIS point of view, you'd get that lovely little window into his thoughts in the spiciest moments of Jane Eyre, but no. It seemed at my absolute favorite parts, the author merely used dialogue we, as true 'Jane-ites', already know word for word, without telling us what Rochester was thinking in between. I felt so robbed! Lol, maybe it was just me, but I felt that that in particular was lazy and disappointing. Like the author couldn't think of anything good enough to say, so they put nothing at all.
Now I'm not trying to bash this book, it just didn't quite give me what I was looking for. It was a genuinely good novel and I closed it satisfied. But if you're really wanting to see in-depth into the passionate mind of E. Rochester, this might not be for you. It was nice, but it had potential for so much more.
RQ Bell has written a 19th century British novel right here in the 21st century! With great respect for Charlotte Bronte's Jane Eyre, the author has re-told that wonderful story from Mr. Rochester's perspective. This broadens our understanding of the WHOLE story, and gives answers to some of the questions raised in Jane Eyre itself. The writing and vocabulary are spot on, as if Charlotte herself had decided to give us Edward's perspectives on events in the original classic. Jane Eyre fans, read and rejoice!
